burnin is cancelled for 2013
Well,
No miracle on K Street apparently... sooo... the 2013 Burnin' is officially cancelled. The 10th Burnin' will be the first or second weekend of October 2014.
We'll be sending the PBR and Schlafly to Enough as well as some of the (now) "limited edition" 10th Burnin' T-shirts to help with the atmosphere.
I can't say adequately how grateful we are for the positive sentiments expressed by folks in this forum. Truly awesome.
We are not the only ones that are going to feel ill effects from the closing of the campground. Stacey and the two other folks that comprise Bearpaw Recreation (the Council Bluff Campground concessionaires) do their job all year barely breaking even and the Burnin' makes their year with the camping fees, firewood and water sales.
We intend to do our best to help take care of Bearpaw in this situation and any help from anyone else would be appreciated.
So here's what I'd like to do:
If any racer would like a $70 cash refund, we'll be happy to oblige. Just email us with your mailing address stating that you want a cash refund and we'll mail you a check.
If you want to help us out some, you can come to the shop and get your entry fee refund in merchandise. That will take a little of the sting out.
If you want to help us and Bearpaw a lot, email us and tell us to keep your entry fee. If there are enough folks that opt for this that we actually have excess funds over the costs incurred, we'll find a home for them with GORC.
Again, thanks for the sympathies.

maximum shredding. Thanks to Matt and Chris of 2timingguys for timing the

Listen up friends...
alrighty folks, we are very close. the weather is irrelevant. the battleground has been laid. we are going to enable an amazing group of people to explore their limits. find your edge and push into the unknown.
please join us at SEVEN AM on saturday morning to receive your t-shirts, numbers, and chips for timing. all solo, 6 and 12 hr, and the first round of team members should gather your equipment and drop your bikes in the designated field area for a lemans start. at NINE AM the race will begin with a short run, a bike pick up, and the beginning of a 6-12 hour mountain bike shred fest.
the online registration will close at noon on fri oct 12. late registration will be at the event from 5-9PM on friday and on saturday morning until the race starts.
the race will be timed using timing chips and the results will be posted hourly-ish. team riders may ride consecutive laps. however, all team members must ride at least one lap. in mixed gender categories it would be good sportsmanship to keep your team rider order unless the rider cannot go out due to unforeseen circumstances.{Note: Racing and the sport of mountain biking are about teamwork, comradery and sportsmanship. A big part of sportsmanship is honor. Each racer is on their honor when signing up for a race class. Honor yourself, your team and the sport itself by following the rules and signing up for the class in which you would normally race. Whether you have a license or not is irrelevant. If you should race Expert, or Pro, you know it. Sandbagging is definitely not cool. Enough said.}-thanks granny!
the sun will set at 6:30PM. it will be very dark in the woods. no one will be allowed to race after 4:30PM without a primary and secondary light source. during the night ride, racers should have a primary light source with a minimum rated power of 10 watts. in addition, each racer should carry a secondary or backup light source in the form of a penlight, flashlight or other lighting system. Light and Motion will have their demo truck there to try out some awesome lighting systems. leave your heavy lights in the campsite and demo a laser.
please feel free to set up support along the course. we have the venue and many will just use their campsite. please keep your stuff out of the way of the trail, road, other riders, etc. there will be an aid station at roughly half way around the lake, at the enough boat launch. there will be water and someone to help in case of an emergency. there will be mountain bike patrol volunteers from GORC on the trail. watch out for them, they are watching out for you. please be responsible and keep in mind that anything can happen on the trail and ultimately you are responsible to safely get around the trail. there will be an EMT at the start/finish area for the duration of the race.
James Hall will be the go to guy for all things campground. he will be acting as camp host. find him to pay for firewood, camping, and day use fees. place the yellow slips attached to the reserve sign posted at the campsites on the dash of your car. that will make it easier for James to identify cars that haven't paid for parking.
in the case of catastrophic failure due to weather or another extenuating circumstance that prevents the ongoing scoring of the event or creates a racing environment that is deemed too dangerous for the participants, the race director may call the race as of a certain time. final results will be calculated based on each team's placement at the call time as determined by that team's last completed lap. this rule is intended to be exercised as a last resort, in the most dire situations, when no other means is available to continue scoring the event or when the potential for serious harm or loss of life becomes imminent.
with all of that said let me close by saying LET'S BURN! we have a couple grand of cash, belt buckles, tons of prizes and schwag, FREE BEER, a killer trail, and a great party. can't wait to see everyone down there.
cheers, john

Race Info
The epic trail of Council Bluff Lake is your battleground! With approx 13 miles of singletrack, Council Bluff offers a rollercoaster of all that Missouri mountain biking has to offer. The trail follows the contour of a picturesque lake and offers no short cuts or bail-out roads. Be prepared: hiking many miles with a mechanical or flat is never fun! As it is an endurance race, each team will have a lap or two which may require a lighting system. All 12 hour race teams are required to have one set of bike lights and a secondary source of lighting (i.e., flashlight, cateye, petzel). Lights will need to be with any rider heading out for a lap 1.5 hours(5:00) before official sunset(6:30) and every lap thereafter.

commence launch sequence
hi. k, coupla things. online reg is ending tonight at midnight. manual/paper reg will happen from 6-8 fri night at the campground area. dont forget the $5 or six pack late penalty. more prizes from our amazing sponsors are rolling in. four half barrells of pabst blue ribbon have been procured. weather is going to be worth a million bucks. any mountain biker worth their weight in salt will be there. blow off reality and come to the burnin.
just a reminder to anyone that is racing. saturday morning at seven am there is a mandatory riders meeting. you will get your tshirts(if applicable), timing chips, and number. in the following two hours you will place your bike in the start/finish area and line up for the lemans start. at nine am we will go for a little jog, mount our steeds, and ride into oblivion.
if, at any time you decide to finish racing, turn in your timing chip. no one will be dnf'ed that starts the race. there is no reason to wait in the woods at the end of the race so that your team mate wont have to go out. just turn in your chip when you are done and the magic of the master brain computer will do the work. the promoter will charge you $100 for that piece if'in you dont turn it in, so dont sleep on it.
when all the people make it in from their last laps of the day, and we tally the results, there will be an awards ceremony. if more than five people wear costumes we can have a costume contest. for the contest there will be a q+A, runway, and possibly a dance off.
no, really. it is a party and you are invited. free, delicious, pbr. awards, cash, heckling, and of course, belt buckles. big ones. that are sweet.
see ya there.

let's play catch up, grab a bev and get comfy...
howdy folks! just got back from the future, and let me tell you what! this weekend is going leave an indelible impression on most of you!
1.firstly, and possibly most importantly, we have the buckles. jim over at millstream metals has yet again graced us with his artwork. you must have one.
2.secondly, we have, once again, procured pabst blue ribbon as a title sponsor. they are so good to us! we are talking about delicious, cold pbr, tons of prizes, and cold hard cash. we love them long time.
we are also receiving prizes/schwag from Specialized, Clif Bar, Quality Bicycle Products(salsa, surly, etc), Mavic, Sram, and Gateway Harley Davidson.
Stika Bros Construction and Gateway Harley Davidson are putting up cash to sponsor laps, TBA. if anyone would like to sponsor a lap please contact me.
we have, once again, had Northwest Coffee do a Mesa Cycles roast of beans for the event, for prizes.
Specialized will be there with the demo truck for anyone that would like to try a 2012 bike on an amazing trail.
3-D, as many of you know, camp site were sold out some time ago. there will be overflow camping at the beach. if you have ever been to the area you know that this is an amazing opportunity to camp right on a beautiful lakefront. there are bathrooms and pay showers down there as well. anyone camping down there may bring their support tables and accoutrement up to the start/finish and set up.
4. quad laser = actually a big deal here... i will be down there fri afternoon and late reg will go from 6-8pm. there is a $5 fee for paper reg. there is no packet/t-shirt pickup fri night. don't ask, k?
THERE IS A MANDATORY RIDER MEETING FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS SATURDAY OCT 8, AT SEVEN AM. at this time you will receive your number(marker on leg, or forehead), your timing chip, and t-shirt. all racers get a chip and it will be your responsibility to turn it in when you are done racing, or be charged for it. ultramax timing will be on premise to keep track of everyone's shot at glory.
THE RACE WILL BEGIN AT NINE AM, OCT 8. all 6/12 hour soloist and one member from each team will place their bike on the ground in the starting area for a lemans start(see mashor for vid example). we will then go for a little jog around the park, mount up, and burn it up.
the event is based on AMTRI rules(use the google). everyone is on their honor to ride the class appropriate for them. i will place you in the event that you mistake your classification and it is brought to my attention.
the Gateway Off Road Cyclists are providing mountain bike patrollers to sweep the course. there will be an aid station, for emergency, at enough boat launch. there will be an EMT near the start/finish for those deciding to injure themselves. please don't.
and now, without further ado, here is the current competition...
